Frank and Irma bought this farm in 1986. When there was first a motorbike in the room, a Fleetwood Cadillac from 1958 joined him very quickly. They've been searching this gorgeous car in the USA and when they finally found their dream car, they let him ship to The Netherlands.

And that's how it al started...

Irma wanted something bigger than that, so  she's got her own double decker bus for her 30th birthday. After a big renovation and a fix up of this big vehicle, they placed him into their home... fits perfectly don't you agree?

And so the home improvement continued. They wanted to create outside 'in'. A big blue sky with some fluffy clouds was painted on the ceiling. And then a new object entered the room. An old French Citroën HY panel van (light truck) was rolled into the living room and became her kitchen. A real food truck and worlds first "Rolling Kitchen".

(Rolling Kitchens is a Dutch food festival in Amsterdam for over 12 years now.)

more info about this festival you can check out our 'things to do' page.

A small boat tranformed to a bathtub, a Trabant from the DDR was cut in half, then painted and functioned as a sofa. Things come and go...

In 1999 Irma and Frank got the proud owners of 2 trams. they were converted into the apartments as they are now.

In the year 2000 they bought a jet fighter, a Mig nr 8810 of the Czechoslovakian air force which was for sale in Lutjewinkel. unfortunately too small for a room, but he has got a beautiful nice place in the garden.

In the same year they got a tip from Frank's brother Henk, about a lifeboat which was for sale in Amsterdam.

Frank, Irma, (neighbors) Yvonne, Mike and Johnno would love to arrange that together. So of they went. With an outboard motor on the lifeboat they wanted to sail over 't IJ to Hoogwoud. A nice plan, but after an hour the engine sank to the bottom of 't IJ and they were brought back to Amsterdam by the water police. Luckily there was a friendly skipper who brought them to Broek op Langedijk. Then finally arrived in to the garden at the Controversy Tram Inn.
